Jazz saxophonist James Moody has died after a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer. The Grammy-nominated star passed away on Thursday, December 9 at San Diego Hospice in California.

The musician found fame in the 1940s and scored a hit with "Moody's Mood for Love". He went on to work with music legends Dizzy Gillespie, and , and recorded more than 50 solo albums during his lengthy career.

Moody received critical acclaim for his recordings, earning him a total of four Grammy Award nominations and a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters award in 1998. He was also honored with the prestigious Kennedy Center Living Jazz Legend Award in 2007.

Moody is survived by his wife Linda McGowan.
